Designing your own Textile Art / Art Quilt
An introductory design and art quilt workshop
2 day workshop
In this workshop we will explore ways to design a textile artwork/quilt by learning design and textile art techniques.
Beginning with basic shapes that Lois will provide, we will look at ways of creating interesting and appealing art quilt designs.
Using raw edge applique, hand colouring, hand painting and thread painting, we will work with the elements of design such as line, colour, shape, pattern, texture and learn to build further layers on our quilts .
Create a Landscape Art Quilt
2 or 3 day workshop
In this workshop participants will use design principles to develop and create an original design. Using photographs of landscapes as inspiration we will explore ways to express how we see the landscape.
Using the design process and techniques of raw edge applique, hand colouring, thread painting and free motion quilting, participants will create their own unique textile art piece.
Mandala Art Quilt Workshop
2 or 3 day workshop
A mandala literally means a circle and usually radiates from the centre out.
In this workshop we will explore the mandala and ways of creating them as an art quilt with a variety of techniques. Beginning with some simple shapes that Lois will provide, we will look at ways of creating an interesting and appealing mandala design. Using raw edge applique, hand colouring and thread painting we will work with elements of design such as line, colour, shape, pattern, texture and learn to build further layers on our quilts.
In this two or three day workshop we will work on creating a small art quilt, approximately 40/50 x 40/50cm.
Create a Still Life Art Quilt
2 day workshop
Urns/vases have been used for centuries as decorative containers, often recording important motifs or events from the artisans culture or historical space.
In this workshop we will explore ways to use stylised motifs – an urn/vase shape and leaves/flowers to create a semi representational and/or abstracted still life art quilt.
Participants will design a textile artwork/quilt by learning simple design and textile art techniques.
Beginning with basic design techniques we will look at ways of creating interesting and appealing designs. Using raw edge applique, hand colouring, hand painting, simple printmaking and free motion stitching/quilting we will work with the elements of design such as line, colour, shape, pattern, texture and learn to build further layers on our quilts.
In this two-day workshop we will work on creating a small art quilt, approximately 50cm x50cm.
