Firewheel Series
In 2018 I began exploring and playing with the Firewheel flower shape, enjoying the graphic qualities, the strength and the colour of the flower.
Once again I found myself drawn to a flower shape that is sculptural, and to focusing on the structural composition of the flower. “Firewheel Spectacular”, the first, was juried into the Australia Wide 6 travelling exhibition and “Firewheel Spectacular 2” was entered into the Miles Art Award. I was delighted to see that it held its own amongst the paintings and sculptures in the gallery.
I have continued to play with the firewheel flower motif over the years, enjoying pushing the design into abstracted representation. There are still a few more ideas to be realised into an art quilt!
