Kangaroo Paws
Kangaroo Paws have always been a favourite flower for me, their shape is so sculptural and they move and sway in the slightest breeze.
Over the years I have continued to explore the shapes, lines and colour of the Kangaroo Paw in my creative work.

A little bit about the process....
Here are some inspirational photos of these amazing flowers – they are sculptural, they are wild and they always look to me like they are dancing!
I have used this kangaroo paw design in a variety of ways before, mostly as a thread painting. It is quite a complex design to consider cutting out as a raw edge applique, however I needed to give it a try and the following images show the process developing. I began with cutting out and ironing on the three kangaroo paw flowers and then rest of the design emerged as I progressed through free machine quilting, hand colouring and hand painting the colourfast medium.
You can see how adding a touch of blue completely changes the feel of the design.
