SURFACE PATTERN DESIGN

Designing has always been an integral part of my textile art practice and as I have far more ideas than I will ever realise in my textile art, in 2022 I decided to purchase Affinity Designer, a design programme that allows me to use my artwork and designs to create repeat patterns.

These repeat patterns can be used on any surface that can be printed.

Please contact me if you are interested in any of these designs as fabric or wrapping paper.

Tui's and Kowhai

The Tui, a favourite New Zealand native bird, and the Kowhai flower, an iconic NZ native flower combine in this collection of designs created from block prints.

Both the Tui and the Kowhai are regulars in my neighbourhood and are favourite motifs in my creative work.

Pohutukawa and Tui's

The Tui bird loves the Pohutukawa flower and while it is difficult to photograph them often high up in the Pohutukawa tree, one can often hear them as they happily consume the nectar.  So it feels natural to combine the two together in this design.

Summer's Garden

The Summer's Garden designs are inspired by the Hydrangea flowers and plants in my garden but also by the variety of new colours that they are available in now.

Rambling Rose

The Rambling Rose Collection of designs was inspired by the rose plants in the median strip outside my house and also includes a design inspired by freesias in my garden.

Bleeding Heart Flowers

Inspired by the delightful and unusual flowers of the Bleeding Heart plant which I have growing in my garden.  Not surprisingly one meaning of these flowers is unconditional love.

Scattered Lilies

Brightly coloured Lilies in a local garden inspired this collection of scattered Lilies.  Original design is derived from a watercolour painting and recreated into a repeat design.

Trio of Flowers

Inspired by a little grouping of three small hand printed flowers.

Love Birds

These young adolescent swans were photographed in my local reserve where I am often seen observing their behaviours and family groups.  I was delighted when I observed the photograph to see a heart shape between them and this has been translated into this design which can be utilised in a number of ways.
